Purnima is the fifteenth tithi of the lunar month, the full moon, which ends the bright half (Shukla paksha). It is a day for holy baths, charity, Satyanarayana puja and fasting. Festivals such as Guru Purnima (Ashadha), Raksha Bandhan (Shravana), Sharad Purnima (Ashwina), Kartik Purnima and Holi (Phalguna) fall on these full moons, though each festival has its own timing rules and can be a day either side.
The Purnima day is the one on which Purnima is current at sunrise. The fast is sometimes kept a day earlier: if Purnima has begun by the end of the previous day's madhyahna (midday period), the vrat falls on that previous day. The table shows both.
Times are IST for New Delhi. Sunrise-based dates can differ by a day in other cities, so check a local panchang if you live far from Delhi.

FAQ

On which day should I keep the Purnima fast?
On the day marked as the vrat day. Usually it is the Purnima day itself, but if Purnima has begun by midday on the previous day, the fast is kept on that previous day.
Are these dates right for my city?
They are calculated from sunrise at New Delhi and checked against established panchangs. Far from Delhi, especially abroad, the day can differ by one.
