The best-known aarti to Vishnu, sung at the end of almost every puja, including Krishna's. Glory to the Lord of the world, who in a moment removes the troubles of his devotees: whoever meditates on him is rewarded, sorrow and pain leave and happiness enters the home. You are my mother and father, the complete Supreme Self who knows every heart, an ocean of compassion; take this foolish one into your refuge, wipe away worldly cravings and sin, and increase faith, devotion and service of the saintly.

About this aarti

Its eight stanzas ask the Lord, who is mother and father, the complete Supreme Self and an ocean of compassion, to take away trouble, worldly cravings and sin, and to increase faith, devotion and service of the saintly. It is sung while the aarti lamp is waved before the deity.

How to do aarti

  1. Light a lamp of ghee (or camphor) on a plate, with flowers, a little rice and incense.
  2. Ring a small bell and wave the plate in clockwise circles before the deity while singing: traditionally four times at the feet, twice at the navel, once at the face and seven times over the whole image.
  3. After the aarti, pass your hands over the flame and touch them to your eyes and forehead, and share the prasad.

Read the Krishna Chalisa

This aarti is usually sung right after the chalisa; read it with the meaning of every verse.
