7 hr 8 min
- Purnima begins
- 10:29 am, 16 Aug
- Purnima ends
- 12:59 pm
Raksha Bandhan falls on Shravana Purnima. Sisters tie a rakhi on their brothers' wrists, apply a tilak and pray for their well-being, and brothers promise to protect them.
Rakhi is never tied during Bhadra, the first half of Purnima, which is held to be inauspicious. The best time is aparahna, the early afternoon, and otherwise Pradosh after sunset, once Bhadra is over. If the next day's Purnima lasts at least six ghatis (2 hours 24 minutes) after sunrise, rakhi is tied that morning instead.
The time to tie rakhi runs from the end of Bhadra (or sunrise) until Purnima ends or Pradosh is over, whichever comes first.
Times for Indian cities are Indian Standard Time; times abroad are local time. They match established panchangs to within a minute or two. For a city not listed, the nearest city is usually within a few minutes.
