About AstroAnktara

Free numerology and Vedic astrology in English and Hindi: calculators that show their working, and panchang and festival times checked to the minute.

AstroAnktara is a free numerology and Vedic astrology website in English and Hindi, built around one idea: a number or a muhurat only means something if you can see where it came from. Our calculators show their working, and our panchang and festival times come from published astronomical rules that we check against an established panchang.

The name comes from two Sanskrit-rooted words. Ank means number and tara means star.

Psychology tests

  • An IQ test of 30 original reasoning puzzles and a Big Five personality test. Taking a test and seeing a short result is free; a detailed full report is optional. They are for practice and self-reflection, not clinical assessments, and the IQ test gives no IQ score.

Tarot

  • A free six-card tarot reading, drawn at random in your browser, and the meanings of all 78 cards, upright and reversed.
  • An optional AI tarot reader: after a reading, it can write a personal reading of your question and all six cards, in English or Hindi, from our own card meanings. A few AI readings are free, and a tarot pass gives more. It is for reflection, not prediction.

How we calculate

Numerology. Our calculators implement standard, published rules from three widely practised traditions:

  • Chaldean numerology: the 1–8 sound-value alphabet popularised in modern print by Cheiro (Book of Numbers), keeping compound totals alongside single-digit reductions.
  • Pythagorean (Western) numerology: the sequential 1–9 alphabet, keeping master numbers 11, 22 and 33 during reduction.
  • Vedic numerology (Ank Jyotish) and the Lo Shu grid: birth days (Mulank) and full birth dates (Bhagyank) reduced to 1–9, each mapped to its traditional Navagraha planet, and digits placed on the classical 3×3 Lo Shu square.

Where practitioners disagree, for example on whether Y is a vowel or whether master numbers are kept in intermediate steps, the calculator says which convention it uses and shows every step.

Astrology, panchang and festivals. Planet positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa used by most Indian panchangs. Tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are taken at local sunrise, and sunrise, sunset and moonrise are worked out for each city's own latitude, longitude and time zone.

Each festival follows its traditional rule: for example, Diwali's Lakshmi Puja in Pradosh Kaal with the fixed Vrishabha lagna, Karwa Chauth on the day Chaturthi holds at moonrise, and Janmashtami by Ashtami at midnight. We have checked our dates and timings against established panchang software across many years and cities, and they agree to within a minute or two. If a time ever looks wrong to you, please tell us.

City data comes from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0).

Our writing and sources

Interpretations, guides and articles are written for AstroAnktara by our editorial team. We do not copy text from books or other websites.

Test questions. The IQ test puzzles and all test reports are our own. The personality test's 50 statements are the one exception: they come word for word from the public-domain International Personality Item Pool, and the Hindi versions are our own translations.

Devotional texts such as chalisas and aartis are traditional texts that have been sung for generations. We reproduce the Hindi text from published versions and name the traditional author where one is known; the meanings and notes alongside them are our own.

Privacy

Numerology calculators run in your browser: we don't ask you to sign up, and we don't store the names, birth dates or phone numbers you type into them. An account is needed only for the AI tarot reader's free questions and passes. When you ask for something that needs your details, such as a Kundli report, a test's full report, an account or vrat reminders, we keep only what that service needs. Our privacy policy explains exactly what is stored and why.

What astrology and numerology are, and aren't

Numerology and astrology are centuries-old symbolic traditions. We present them as tools for reflection, planning religious observances and conversation. They are not empirical sciences and cannot predict the future with certainty. Nothing on this site is medical, legal, financial or psychological advice. Please read our disclaimer.

How the site is funded

Most of AstroAnktara is free. The site is supported by the paid Complete Kundli Report, the optional ₹100 full reports of our psychology tests, optional tarot passes for the AI tarot reader and, on some pages, by clearly labelled display advertising. Ads are kept separate from calculators and never receive the details you type into a tool.
