Glory to Mother Lakshmi, served day and night by Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. She is Uma, Rama and Brahmani, the mother of the world, worshipped by the Sun, the Moon and Narada; in the form of Durga she gives happiness and wealth. Every virtue comes to the home where she lives, and no ritual, clothing or food is possible without her. Whoever sings her aarti is filled with joy and freed of sin.
About this aarti
It hails her as Uma, Rama and Brahmani, mother of the world, served by Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma and worshipped by the Sun, the Moon and Narada; every virtue comes to the home where she lives, no ritual, clothing or food is possible without her, and she rose from the ocean of milk with the fourteen treasures.
How to do aarti
- Light a lamp of ghee (or camphor) on a plate, with flowers, a little rice and incense.
- Ring a small bell and wave the plate in clockwise circles before the deity while singing: traditionally four times at the feet, twice at the navel, once at the face and seven times over the whole image.
- After the aarti, pass your hands over the flame and touch them to your eyes and forehead, and share the prasad.
Read the Lakshmi Chalisa
This aarti is usually sung right after the chalisa; read it with the meaning of every verse.
