The nine core numbers and three master numbers
Numerology works with nine core numbers, each with its own character: 1 the Pioneer, 2 the Peacemaker, 3 the Creator, 4 the Builder, 5 the Explorer, 6 the Nurturer, 7 the Seeker, 8 the Achiever and 9 the Humanitarian.
Western numerology also keeps three master numbers unreduced: 11, 22 and 33. They are read as higher-pitched versions of their roots 2, 4 and 6, with more potential and more pressure.
Where your numbers come from
The same number can turn up in several places in a chart. Your life path comes from your full date of birth, your destiny (expression) number from all the letters of your name, your soul urge from its vowels and your personality number from its consonants. Each guide explains what the number means in every one of these positions, with a link to the calculator that finds it.
Western and Vedic numerology
These guides follow Western (Pythagorean) practice, including master numbers. Vedic numerology, popular in India, reduces every number to 1–9 and links each digit to one of the nine planets. For that tradition, read the Mulank and Bhagyank guides.
