What the Chaldean name number shows
Chaldean numerology is one of the oldest letter-number systems still in use. It gives each letter of the alphabet a value from 1 to 8 and keeps 9 aside as a number of completion. The values are traditionally said to follow the sound or vibration of each letter rather than its position in the alphabet, which is why the chart looks irregular compared with the simple A = 1, B = 2 pattern of the Western system.
When you enter a name, AstroAnktara adds those letter values in three different ways. The total of every letter gives the destiny or expression number, which describes how the name presents itself in the world. The total of the vowels gives the soul urge, read as private motivation. The total of the consonants gives the personality number, which is the impression other people tend to notice first.
None of this is a fixed prediction. Think of the report as a vocabulary for reflection: a way of putting words to tendencies you may already recognise, and of asking whether a name feels aligned with how you want to show up.
The Chaldean letter chart
These are the exact values the calculator uses:
| Value | Letters |
|---|---|
| 1 | A I J Q Y |
| 2 | B K R |
| 3 | C G L S |
| 4 | D M T |
| 5 | E H N X |
| 6 | U V W |
| 7 | O Z |
| 8 | F P |
Notice that some numbers carry more letters than others, and that no letter is worth 9. Different books occasionally disagree on one or two letters. AstroAnktara follows the widely published version shown above and uses it consistently across every Chaldean tool on the site.
How to calculate it by hand
You can check every result on this page with a pencil. Here is the method, using the name Teena as the worked example.
- Write the name in English letters and remove spaces, hyphens, digits and punctuation. Accents are dropped, so É counts as E.
- Look up each letter: T = 4, E = 5, E = 5, N = 5, A = 1.
- Add every letter for the destiny number: 4 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 1 = 20. That is the compound number.
- Reduce it by adding the digits: 2 + 0 = 2. So Teena's destiny number is 20 / 2.
- Add only the vowels for the soul urge: E + E + A = 5 + 5 + 1 = 11. Because 11 is a master number, it is kept rather than reduced to 2.
- Add only the consonants for the personality number: T + N = 4 + 5 = 9.
The calculator does exactly this, then shows the full letter-by-letter table so you can follow the arithmetic.
Compound numbers and master numbers
Many Chaldean practitioners pay close attention to the compound total, the two-digit number before reduction, because they read it as adding nuance to the single digit underneath. A destiny of 20 and a destiny of 11 both relate to 2, but they are often described differently. That is why the report always shows both values side by side.
Master numbers are a special case. When a total lands exactly on 11, 22 or 33, it is usually left unreduced because these doubled digits are read as more intense versions of their roots (2, 4 and 6). AstroAnktara keeps master numbers in the destiny, soul urge and personality calculations and marks them clearly on the report.
The extra numbers in your report
Beyond the three main numbers, the report includes a few smaller indicators:
- Hidden passion is the letter value that appears most often in the name. It hints at a talent or drive that keeps resurfacing.
- Karmic lessons are the values from 1 to 8 that do not appear at all. They are read as qualities you may need to develop consciously.
- The cornerstone is the first letter of the name, traditionally linked with how you begin tasks and approach new situations.
These are supporting details. If one resonates, explore it. If not, the main numbers carry more weight in most readings.
Chaldean or Pythagorean?
The Pythagorean name calculator uses a tidy 1 to 9 pattern across the alphabet and is the more common system in Western books and websites. Chaldean numerology is often preferred in India for name correction and for business names, partly because its letter values are said to reflect sound.
Because the charts differ, the same name can produce different numbers in each system. Teena, for example, is 2 in Chaldean but 9 in Pythagorean. Neither answer is wrong. They are two different lenses, and many people simply use the system their teacher or tradition prefers. If you want the full comparison, read Chaldean vs Pythagorean numerology.
Getting the most from your result
Start with the destiny number and read its interpretation slowly. Ask whether it describes how people experience you at work or in public. Then compare the soul urge, your inner motivation, with the personality number, your outer impression. A gap between the two is common and often useful to notice. It can explain why people sometimes misread what you want.
If you are weighing a new spelling, a nickname or a brand name, run each option through the calculator and compare them side by side. To see how a name sits with your date of birth, use the lucky name checker, which compares the name number with your Moolank and Bhagyank.
Privacy
This calculator runs entirely in your browser. When you press Calculate, the name is kept only in this browser tab, so the back button and refresh still show your report, but the page address never contains it. To send the report to someone, use Share, which creates a link that recreates it. AstroAnktara does not save your name, and personal result pages are marked so that search engines do not index them.
FAQ
Chaldean Name Calculator FAQs
Is Chaldean numerology scientifically proven?
No. Chaldean numerology is a symbolic and cultural system, not a science. AstroAnktara presents it for entertainment and self-reflection, and you should never base medical, legal or financial decisions on it.
Why does Chaldean numerology not use the number 9 for letters?
In the Chaldean tradition 9 is treated as a complete or sacred number, so letters are only given values from 1 to 8. A 9 can still appear as a total once the letter values are added up.
Why does the calculator show compound and reduced numbers?
The compound number is the raw total of the letter values, for example 20. The reduced number is what you get by adding its digits until one digit remains (20 becomes 2), unless the total is a master number such as 11, 22 or 33.
Should Y be counted as a vowel?
AstroAnktara uses A, E, I, O and U as vowels by default and treats Y as a consonant. Some practitioners count Y as a vowel when it sounds like one, as in 'Lily'. Tick the option on the form to see that version.
Which name should I enter?
Use the name you actually go by every day, such as the one on your signature, business card or social profile. Many practitioners also compare it with the full name on your birth certificate.
Does changing the spelling change the result?
Yes. Every letter has a value, so adding, removing or changing a letter changes the total. This is why some people adjust spellings during name correction.
Is my name saved anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and the name is kept only in your current browser tab. It is included in a link only if you choose Share, and AstroAnktara never stores it.
