Name Compatibility Calculator
Compare two names, and optionally two birth dates, to see how their numbers relate.
What name compatibility means in numerology
Numerology compatibility looks at whether two people's numbers naturally support each other, sit neutrally side by side, or pull in different directions. It is built on the same idea as compatibility in astrology: certain energies blend easily while others need more understanding.
This calculator compares two names, and optionally two birth dates, and gives you a score along with the reasoning behind it. The aim isn't to approve or reject a relationship. It's to give you an interesting way to talk about how you might complement each other.
How the calculator works
- Name numbers. Each name is converted to numbers using the Chaldean chart (or Pythagorean if you choose), added up and reduced to a single digit. Master numbers are compared using their root (11 as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6).
- Moolank numbers (optional). If you enter both birth dates, each person's Moolank, the birth day reduced to one digit, is calculated too.
- Relations. Each pair is checked in the friendly / neutral / challenging table in both directions. Friendly scores 2, neutral 1 and challenging 0, so each pair scores between 0 and 4.
- Score. The pair scores are added and turned into a percentage. Scores of 70% and above are described as friendly, 40–69% as neutral, and below 40% as challenging.
A worked example
Let's compare Meera and Arjun using the Chaldean chart.
- Meera: M4 + E5 + E5 + R2 + A1 = 17 → 8.
- Arjun: A1 + R2 + J1 + U6 + N5 = 15 → 6.
In the table, 8 counts 6 as friendly (2 points) and 6 counts 8 as neutral (1 point). The name pair scores 3 out of 4, which is friendly.
Now add birth dates. If Meera was born on 14 March 1992 (Moolank 5) and Arjun on 29 April 1990 (Moolank 2), then 5 counts 2 as friendly and 2 counts 5 as friendly: 4 out of 4.
Together that's 7 out of 8 points, a compatibility score of 88%.
Why both directions matter
The traditional relation table isn't a simple list of compatible pairs. Each number has its own list of friends, neutrals and challenges, and these don't always mirror each other. Many calculators only check one direction, which means the result can change depending on whose name you enter first. AstroAnktara checks both directions so the score is the same either way round.
Reading your result
Friendly results suggest that your numbers share a similar rhythm or complement each other naturally. Agreement may come easily, and differences tend to feel like balance rather than conflict.
Neutral results are common and perfectly workable. The numbers don't amplify each other, so the relationship is shaped mostly by effort, timing and communication.
Challenging results suggest the numbers have different priorities, such as pace, independence or the balance between security and freedom. Recognising those differences can be useful: it often explains recurring friction and makes it easier to talk about.
Names, birth dates or both?
Name numbers can change: nicknames, married names and new spellings all shift the total. Birth numbers can't. That's why many numerologists give more weight to the Moolank comparison and use name numbers as a secondary layer. If you have both birth dates, include them.

Use it lightly
Compatibility calculators are fun conversation starters, not relationship advice. No number can capture trust, kindness or shared values. Please don't make serious decisions about a relationship based on a score.

FAQ
Name Compatibility Calculator FAQs
How is the compatibility score calculated?
Each name is reduced to a single name number. The two numbers are checked against the friendly / neutral / challenging table in both directions. If you add both birth dates, the two Moolank numbers are compared the same way, and the results are combined into a percentage.
Why check the numbers in both directions?
The traditional table is not always symmetrical: one number may be friendly towards another that is only neutral in return. Checking both directions means the score is the same whichever name you type first.
Do I need birth dates?
No, but they help. With both birth dates the calculator also compares your Moolank (driver) numbers, which many practitioners consider more revealing than names alone.
Can a low score mean a relationship won't work?
No. Compatibility in numerology is a reflective tool, not a prediction. Many happy couples have 'challenging' numbers. Communication, respect and shared values matter far more.
Which names should we use?
Use the names you call each other by or use in daily life. You can also try full names or surnames to compare different perspectives.
Can I use it for friends, family or business partners?
Yes. The same number relationships apply to any pairing. Many people use it to explore working partnerships as well as romantic ones.
