Sankashti Chaturthi is the monthly fast for Ganesha on Krishna Chaturthi, the fourth day after the full moon; sankashti means deliverance from troubles. Devotees fast from sunrise, worship Ganesha in the evening and break the fast after seeing the Moon and offering it arghya. Each month honours a different form of Ganesha.
The fast is on the day the Moon rises during Chaturthi; if it does on both days, the first, and if on neither, the day Chaturthi holds at sunrise. A Sankashti on a Tuesday is Angaraki, the most auspicious. The Sankashti of Magha is Sakat Chauth, and that of Kartika is Karwa Chauth.
Times are IST for New Delhi. Sunrise-based dates can differ by a day in other cities, so check a local panchang if you live far from Delhi.
