Glory to Shani Dev, friend of his devotees, son of the Sun and of Chhaya: dark, four-armed, with a sidelong gaze, dressed in blue and riding an elephant, a jewelled crown on his head and pearls at his throat. Sweets, betel and supari are offered to him, and he loves iron, sesame, oil and urad. Gods, demons, sages and people remember him, and even Shiva meditates on him: we are in your refuge.
