Meaning of the Shukra beej mantra

  • ॐ (Om) is the primordial sound with which most Vedic mantras begin.
  • द्रां द्रीं द्रौं (Draam Dreem Draum) are beej (seed) syllables. They are not translated word for word; tradition treats them as the sound-form of Venus's energy, and सः (sah) seals the invocation.
  • शुक्राय नमः (Shukraya Namah) means "salutations to Shukra".

Why the Shukra mantra is chanted

Shukra, or Venus, is the planet of love, beauty, art and comfort, and the teacher of the asuras. The Shukra beej mantra is traditionally chanted for harmony in love and marriage, creativity and artistic success, and a comfortable, graceful life.
