Yes or no tarot

Think of a yes-or-no question, draw one card, and see which way it leans. The card is drawn at random in your browser, upright or reversed, and your question stays on your device: on this page it is never sent to us.

What is your yes-or-no question?

One thing at a time, and something a yes or a no can answer. You can also just hold it in mind.

How yes or no tarot works here

One card is drawn at random from the full deck of 78, in your own browser. Like the cards in our six-card reading, it lands upright about seven times in ten and reversed about three times in ten.

Every card in our deck has a usual lean for each way up: yes, no or maybe. Bright, open cards such as The Sun tend to lean yes; heavier cards such as The Tower tend to lean no; cards about pausing and weighing things up, such as The Hanged Man, sit at maybe. This page shows the lean first, then a line or two from that card's meaning, so you can see where the lean comes from.

The same leans are listed on each of the 78 card pages, so you can check any card for yourself.

A lean is a nudge, not a prediction

One card can't know what will happen, and it doesn't decide anything. Tarot is for reflection and entertainment: take a yes as encouragement, a no as a reason to look again at the plan or the timing, and a maybe as a sign that the answer still rests on choices you haven't made.

Notice your first reaction when the card turns over. Relief or disappointment often tells you more about what you really want than the card does. Please don't leave a decision about health, law or money to a card; for those, talk to someone qualified and to people you trust.

How to ask a good yes or no question

Ask about one thing, and make it something a yes or a no can really answer. 'Should I apply for this course now?' works; 'Should I apply for this course or wait a year and travel?' is two questions in one.

Keep the question about you and something you can act on. 'Is this a good time to talk to my manager?' gives you something to do; 'Does my manager like me?' asks the card to read someone else's mind.

Ask once. Drawing again and again until the answer you want turns up only muddles things. If one card feels too thin for a big question, the six-card reading looks at it from six sides.

FAQ

Yes or no tarot: questions and answers

Is my yes or no question private?

Yes. On this page the card is drawn in your browser, and your question is never sent to us or saved anywhere. You don't even have to type it; you can simply hold it in mind.

Which tarot cards mean yes, and which mean no?

Open, hopeful cards such as The Sun, The Star and the Ace of Cups usually lean yes when upright. Heavier cards such as The Tower and the Three of Swords usually lean no. Many reversed cards sit at maybe. Each card's page shows its lean both ways up.

What does a reversed card mean for a yes or no question?

A reversed card shows its theme delayed, blocked or turned inward, so its lean is often softer: many cards that say yes upright say maybe or no when reversed. It is a prompt to look closer, not a bad sign.

Can tarot really answer yes or no?

Not as a fact about the future. The lean is the card's traditional reading, offered for reflection and entertainment. It isn't medical, legal or financial advice, and the decision stays yours.
