Advice from Strength
Meet the challenge with calm courage, and treat both yourself and others with patience.
Draw six cardsStrength upright meaning
Strength shows a woman in a white dress calmly holding the jaws of a lion, her touch gentle rather than forceful. The lion seems to accept her, almost tame under her hands. Above her head floats the same sign of infinity seen over The Magician, and a chain of flowers circles her waist and loops around the lion. The sky behind them is a soft, warm yellow.
This card is about the kind of strength that does not shout. The lion stands for raw instinct, passion and fear, and the woman shows that these can be guided with patience and kindness instead of force. Strength means courage, self-control, resilience and compassion, both for others and for yourself. True power, it suggests, is calm, steady and warm.
In daily life, Strength appears when you need to stay calm under pressure, handle a difficult person kindly or face a fear step by step. It may also point to managing your own temper, cravings or worries with patience rather than harsh self-criticism. Quiet confidence, a soft voice that holds firm and steady persistence are all signs of this card.
Strength reversed meaning
Reversed, the inner lion feels harder to handle. Self-doubt may be draining your confidence, or strong emotions like anger and frustration may spill out before you can calm them. You might feel tired, low in energy or unsure you can cope. Sometimes the card shows force being used where gentleness would work better, by you or by someone else.
This is a reminder that strength can be rebuilt slowly. Start by being kinder to yourself; harshness rarely tames anything. Take small steps toward what scares you, and rest when you need to. If emotions are running high, pause before reacting. Talking to someone you trust can help you remember the courage that is still inside you.
